Eliminating Wood Waste

Our company has helped keep roughly 10 Million pounds of wood waste from piling up in landfills. Turning this wood waste into a clean and efficient product!

Protection and Restoration

Our restoration efforts in the Cibola National forest is directed to and has helped protect our local watersheds from catastrophic fires, protecting the endangered species that use these rivers as their homes.

Adding Fire Resilience to the Land

In our efforts to restore the forests to old-growth conditions, we have removed dangerous piles of excess wood waste and harvesting small-diameter trees that overcrowd parts of the forests!

Bio:  I am the Western NM Program Director for Conservation Voters NM Education Fund (CVNMEF), I work in McKinley and Cibola Counties, including surrounding tribal communities.

Our vision is for a New Mexico where decision-makers and public policies represent the conservation values of our people.

Our mission
Protecting our environment begins with the people of New Mexico.
Engaging the people of New Mexico in our long-standing shared values of protecting our air, land, water and the health of our communities. We do this by mobilizing people to advocate on policy, enhancing the voting process, encouraging people to vote, cultivating conservation leaders and amplifying the voices of those most affected.

Our organizing commitment
We are committed to creating long-term change by working with communities to address environmental issues impacting their health and quality of life. We do this by bringing community members together to work on policy solutions, providing skills-building trainings and resources, organizing public events and connecting activists with decision-makers.

Other interests: Biodiversity; protection of natural areas that preserve high plant and animal biodiversity representative of pre-settlement habitats

Bio: I am interested in the protection of natural areas - areas of high biodiversity or unique natural conditions that are representative of pre-settlement conditions - that is, before livestock grazing, logging, and mining and other human activities drastically reduced the biodiversity and abundance of wildlife and native plants. Such areas are rare in the Zuni Mountains and should be protected as representative of conditions that existed pre-settlement. Such areas represent our natural heritage and reveal the extent of human impacts upon our natural environment. I have worked as an independent contract botanist for 15 years, mainly performing rare plant surveys. I have performed a search for USFS sensitive plants in Lincoln National Forest, NM (2006) and I created a vegetation map and performed a botanical inventory of Stewart Meadows in Carson National Forest, NM (2006).

I am an active member of the collaboratives associated with the Zuni Mt. CFLR and the Cibola NF plan revision process. I feel strongly that it is necessary to speak for a healthy landscape on the Cibola - for the plants and animals that should appear in that landscape.

Bio: The Rio Grande Valley Broadband of the Great Old Broads for Wilderness is interested in learning about landscape level forest restorations, and their effect on riparian habitats and wildlife. Our group sees a return to the forest conditions of 150 years ago as desirable in terms of healthy landscapes. We are willing to participate in monitoring of water quality in the Zuni Mountains, and in educating our members and others about what a fire resilient forest should look like.
